November 22, 2022, Foxborough, Massachusetts, USA - MicroPort NaviBot(Suzhou) Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Shanghai MicroPort MedBot (Group) Co., Ltd. ("MicroPort® MedBot®"), announced that Honghu Orthopedic Surgical Robot has completed the first clinical use in the United States for total knee replacement procedure. Dr. Joseph Kavolus, of Lighthouse Surgical Suites in Hollis, N.H., conducted the successful procedure. Lighthouse Surgical Suites was also the first hospital in the United States where Honghu had been installed and used for trial. As the first clinical use of Honghu for total knee replacements in the United States after being approved by the FDA, it was a significant milestone for MicroPort® MedBot®. The successful launch and application of Honghu in the oversea market will boost the globalization progress of MicroPort® MedBot®, bring benefits to more patients in the world, and help realize its original intention of "Make Surgery Easier, Safer and Less Invasive".

It is the first combination between Honghu Total Knee Arthroplasty Navigation and Positioning System with MicroPort’s Evolution® Medial-Pivot Knee System of MicroPort® Orthopedics in the United States. Honghu provides surgeons with the possibility to customize the plan in a virtual preoperative environment and achieve accurate implementation during the surgery; the Evolution® Medial-Pivot Knee System replicates the natural stability and motion of the knee delivering a functionally restorative design that offers surgeons an innovative solution to problems such as instability, anterior knee pain, and functional limitations.

Dr. Kavolus, who successfully conducted this surgery, specializes in the treatment of orthopedic injuries and joint surgery, and has extensive experience in orthopedic surgery and surgical robot application. He said after the surgery, "These two advanced technologies aim to improve patient outcomes, and overall patient satisfaction through a kinematic-focused clinical solution. We believe this pairing will be an attractive clinical solution when compared to current options on the market – defining a new, 'patient first' standard for treatment while improving the overall knee surgical experience." The design of the Evolution® Medial-Pivot knee may help surgeons complete the surgeries. As a new user of Honghu, Kavolus stated: "For the first case with a new technology, I was pleasantly surprised at the smooth flow and execution, ease of integration into my workflow, and thrilled that the outcome was exceptional. I couldn't be happier to provide this to my patients."

Prior to the surgery, Kavolus has practiced the system several times through the systematic and professional training provided by the MicroPort® MedBot® team, and grasped the principle and usage method of the system. Honghu has provided a prerequisite for the success of this surgery with its short learning period and high operation accuracy.

Recently, Honghu has been launched in the United States. MicroPort® NaviBot® (Suzhou) will keep upgrading the system and optimizing the product by leveraging the feedback of cases and data, so that Honghu will better meet the demands of American surgeons for surgery performance and provide comprehensive service for American patients.

Doctor Yangbin Chen, General Manager of MicroPort® NaviBot® (Suzhou) said: "With the successful completion of the first clinical use of Honghu or total knee replacement procedure in the United States, it has demonstrated its advantages of accurate operation, efficient collaboration, safety protection and high compatibility, which has laid a solid foundation for the intelligent manufacturing technologies of China to bring benefits to the local patients. This is another significant breakthrough made by Honghu after being approved by the FDA. It will inspire the team to continue moving forward, and help us improve and optimize our products, providing better service for the patients at home and abroad."

Mr. Yu Liu, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of MicroPort® MedBot®, said, "By early November, Honghu has completed 300 clinical surgeries in China. Now it has successfully completed its first clinical use in a hospital in the United States. The combination of Honghu Total Knee Arthroplasty Navigation and Positioning System with Evolution® Medial-Pivot Knee System will provide more scientific plans for the patients, and also serves a verification for the mature functions of Honghu. Adhering to the clinical transformation of the research results of cutting-edge technologies, Honghu has extended its presence from China to the world. We will keep drawing on clinical experience and provide better and more sophisticated robots to surgeons and patients, realizing the original intention of "Make Surgery Easier, Safer and Less Invasive".
